Lexington Law | Credit Help Info

When talking about credit repair agencies, Lexington Law Firm is one of the first big names that comes up. With its long history of helping customers repair credit, Lexington Law is often regarded as one of the best in the business.

However, if you’re in need of credit repair, you may be unsure about Lexington Law. You may have read some negative customer reviews about the firm, with some going as far as saying that Lexington Law is a scam.

In this article, we’ll do a detailed review of Lexington Law. We’ve compiled a full list of pros and cons, as well as analyzed past customer reviews. If you’re on the fence about choosing Lexington Law, hopefully this review will shed some light on what you can expect from their services.

Who is Lexington Law?

Lexington Law is a credit repair agency that helps customers remove negative errors from their credit reports. The firm is based in Utah and Arizona, and accepts clients from every state in the US except Oregon and North Carolina.

Lexington Law was established in 2004. Under the leadership and guidance of directing attorney John C. Heath, the agency has disputed over 220 million items for clients over the years.

Is Lexington Law Legit?

Yes, Lexington Law is a legitimate credit repair agency. While results can vary, Lexington Law clients do see general score improvement upon having incorrect items on their credit reports disputed.

How Does Lexington Law Repair Your Credit?

Like many other credit repair agencies, Lexington Law follows a general three-step process:

  • Free consultation
  • Dispute errors
  • Other services

Let’s go over what you can expect from each step.

Free Consultation

Clients typically start with Lexington Law by scheduling a free consultation. During this time, an associate will walk you through the credit repair process and introduce their three tiers of service plans.

It’s important to note that Lexington Law will only offer general advice to you at this stage. You will not be reviewing your specific credit report with an associate, nor should you expect to see a credit score increase yet. It’s simply a time for you to get familiar with Lexington Law’s process and determine if you want to continue with paid services.

Dispute Errors

After signing up for one of Lexington Law’s three plans, an associate will be assigned to your case within 48 hours. You will work with them to get your credit reports from Experian, TransUnion, and Equifax.

Your associate will then begin identifying possible areas of dispute in your credit reports. This can include errors in the following:

  • Personal information
  • Credit accounts
  • Late payments
  • Collections
  • Inquiries

Lexington Law will then dispute these items on your behalf. They do this by writing dispute letters to each credit reporting agency. According to the Fair Credit Reporting Act, credit bureaus must report the results of a credit dispute within 30 days.

Certain items may take longer than others to dispute, so this dispute process is repeated as long as necessary. Once all incorrectly reported items have been removed, the firm’s work is done.

Other Services

Lexington Law’s most basic plan, the Concord Standard, includes just the credit bureau challenges. However, if you decide to pay for a higher level of service, you’ll get access to additional services.

These services range from monthly credit report check-ins to a FICO Score tracker. You can track progress on your case and access many of these tools through Lexington Law’s mobile app.

Overall, Lexington Law is a step above other firms with regards to these other services. They offer many insights into how to continue improving your score, even after the credit repair process is complete.

What Lexington Law Can't Do

Many clients go into credit repair thinking that it’s a guaranteed way to boost their credit score and eliminate debt. However, this is far from the truth.

When you hire Lexington Law, it’s important to know that they cannot:

  • Remove actual debts or inquiries. Lexington Law will not clear your debts. They also will not attempt to remove anything that’s correct on your report, even if it affects your score negatively. In the end, it’s still your responsibility to pay down your debts.
  • Promise a credit score increase. In fact, any credit repair firm that does so is engaging in false advertising. Also, under the Credit Repair Organizations Act, credit repair agencies must make all such guarantees in writing.

How Much Does Lexington Law Charge?

Lexington Law has three levels of service. Each plan is a monthly subscription that you can cancel at any time.

Concord Standard

$

89.95

/mo

Concord Standard is Lexington Law’s most basic plan, which covers bureau challenges. Most clients should find this level of service sufficient for credit repair.

Premium
Plus

$

129.95

/mo

In addition to all the benefits of Concord Premium, Premium Plus subscribers also get a FICO score tracker, identity protection, personal finance tools, and cease & desist letters sent on your behalf.

Pros of Lexington Law Firm

There are a lot of reasons why Lexington Law firm is one of the most popular credit repair services out there. Here’s a list of their best pros.

  • Experience & Popularity

Lexington Law has been around since 2004. Chances are, they are the first firm that comes up when researching credit repair agencies.

Because they’ve been around for so long, they have been able to help clients get millions of items removed from their credit reports. This track record has helped the firm build trust in their services.

Few other credit repair agencies can claim the experience and popularity that Lexington Law boasts.

  • Staff Has Verified Legal Experience

Unfortunately, the credit repair industry is full of scams, with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau specifically warning customers against certain companies. One reason for this is that many of these companies do not hire properly trained staff.

Lexington Law, on the other hand, only hires associates with a legal background. All of their attorneys have either a law background from university or experience being a paralegal.

You can view their team of lawyers on their website. In an industry where it’s good to be skeptical of everything, Lexington Law helps reassure customers by being transparent about their lawyer’s backgrounds. It’s always good to know exactly who you’ll be talking to about your credit.

  • Personalized Attention To Your Case

After you sign up with Lexington Law, a dedicated attorney will be assigned to your case. You also won’t find this sort of personalization attention at every credit repair agency.

Having a dedicated attorney can also help speed up the credit repair process, since you won’t need to constantly switch between different associates. Your attorney will always be up to date on everything that happens with your case.

  • Reasonable Pricing

Lexington Law’s prices aren’t the lowest you’ll find, but they are more than reasonable. Some firms charge upwards of $200 to $400 per month for credit repair, but even Lexington Law’s most expensive plan sits at $129.99 a month.

Also, one of the best parts about their pricing model is that they do not charge an initial setup fee.

  • Offers Credit Improvement Tips & Guidance

A credit repair agency is only responsible for removing incorrect items from a credit report. However, Lexington Law goes above and beyond in suggesting tips to continue improving your score.

We already touched on products such as ReportWatch and the FICO Score tracker as additional benefits of some of the higher level service tiers. These can help you continue making good money moves under the guidance of a professional to help further increase your score.

Lexington Law also has a lot of resources about how to build your credit. From articles to in-depth guides, these free educational resources can help you take charge of your financial life. Such advice is usually given by credit counseling services. Lexington Law including them for free is a huge plus.

  • Flexible Customer Service Hours

Many credit repair agencies are lacking in terms of customer service availability. Outside of regular working hours, it’s common to not be able to get a hold of customer service. Lexington Law’s customer service hotline is open from 7am to 7pm Mountain Time (MST) Mondays through Fridays.

The extra four hours a day are very useful if you need to contact them urgently outside of working hours.

Of course, you can schedule a time with your dedicated attorney if required. Also, you can contact Lexington Law via email and online chat.

  • Lexington Law Mobile App

Despite being an older player in the credit repair business, Lexington Law has not fallen behind on newer technological and business trends. This is shown in their Lexington Law mobile app, something that few other top credit repair agencies offer.

The app offers clients a way to conveniently track their case profile from anywhere. In the Case Overview screen, you’ll be able to see a progress bar that also tracks how many negative items are left to dispute. If you pay for the higher service tiers, you’ll also be able to see your FICO Score tracker and identity protection threat level.

The app is highly rated on both the Apple App Store and Google Play store.

Cons of Lexington Law Firm

Despite all the pros, here are three cons that you should be aware of before choosing Lexington Law.

  • Credit Report Fee

Although Lexington Law doesn’t charge a setup fee, they do charge a $15 fee for every credit report pull. This doesn’t make all that much sense, especially for the first pull, since you are entitled to a free copy of your credit report once per year.

Unfortunately, these credit report fees can really add up. Requesting a credit report from all three bureaus will cost $45. Moreover, during credit repair, it’s common to have to request credit reports monthly.

It would be better if Lexington Law could allow clients to request their first credit report for free, and then incorporate any additional pulls into the monthly subscription fee.

  • No Money-Back Guarantee

We could not find any money-back guarantees at Lexington Law. In credit repair, offering a 90 day money-back guarantee is usually the norm.

It’s important to realize that credit repair agencies cannot promise that any reporting errors will be removed. As a result, if you’re unhappy with the service, you probably will not be able to request a refund. Take this into account before signing up for a plan.

  • Customer Service Accessibility

In our list of pros, we talked about the expanded customer service hours by Lexington Law. However, since Lexington Law is a relatively smaller firm, you may be put on hold for longer than expected.

In addition, since each case is assigned a dedicated lawyer, you probably won’t be able to speak directly to your representative through the hotline. You’ll have to face even longer hold times for that.

Customer Testimonials of Lexington Law

The best way to determine how legitimate and effective a credit repair company is to read their customer testimonials. Here are some testimonials from ConsumerAffairs that highlight some common trends experienced by Lexington Law customers.

Carol

of Westport, CT

May 23, 2021

I started with Lexington Law after considering what do I have to lose. I had extensive credit issue that needed to repair, it was difficult getting any kind of credit, at times embarrassing and frustrating. It took some time but I made it. I can honestly say without their hard work my credit would not be where it is today, and I'm so proud of myself for taking that leap of faith. I'm getting offers now that was nonexistent before. I would tell anyone needing help give it a try. Baby steps. You won't regret..

This review emphasizes the situation that many seeking credit repair find themselves in: credit issues that seem impossible to fix, and not being able to get a loan as a result. In Carol’s case, Lexington Law was able to completely turn her bad credit around.

Sometimes, credit repair can get expensive, and it’s completely normal to be skeptical about paying for it. However, it can be helpful to view credit repair as an investment rather than an additional cost. The “leap of faith” that Carol describes to sign up for Lexington Law is what ultimately helped her get her credit back on track.

Peter of Alexandria, VA

November 2, 2020

Don't be fool to pay this place so called credit repair. I paid them at least $280 to get less than nothing. They charged me about $149/mo for 2 months for doing nothing. No results. I stopped immediately otherwise they continue to. They pretend to drag the case as long as possible so they can continue to bill me monthly. I had bad experiences with multiple times. You guys don't be fool like me. Don't waste your money. Email **. I will tell you the true for what they did.

It’s very important to always take a look at the negative reviews of a company, even if they account for just a small percentage of all reviews (over 71,000 reviews with an average score of 4.7/5.0). This 1-star review was submitted by Peter, who signed up for Lexington Law’s Premier Plus plan.

It highlights another common misconception people have with credit repair agencies--that somehow they are “quick fixes” designed to quickly improve your credit score in the short-term.

While it may be the case that some clients see their credit improve right away, it will typically take around 6 months in order to see meaningful results. Two months usually isn’t enough.

We understand this can be very frustrating, especially when you are making a large monthly payment without seeing any results. However, the most successful Lexington Law clients have stuck with the firm for at least around six months, and have also taken advantage of their educational content to further improve their scores.

I have been off & on with Lexington for some years now, but I will say they are my first credit repair company & the only company that I would want to assist me. I understand everyone has a different experience, but I look at credit repair the same way my grandfather told me: "You didn't ruin your credit over night, so don't expect it to be resolved overnight." I choose to pay the highest plan (best results & protection) & I have seen 75% of negative history gone! If you get Lexington Law to remove negative accounts, get you a credit card, & also take the initiative to pay your bills on time....I can guarantee you will see positive results! (Also to some who expressed delayed hold times from March 2020 to present....please consider that with Covid-19 a lot of businesses have a heavy work load & are short staffed.)

Quote Right Marks | Credit Help Info

Addrienne from Arlington, TX offers more insight into Lexington Law’s credit repair process. This review is similar to the last in that it also shows how you need to be patient when it comes to fixing credit.

As Addrienne says, Lexington Law won’t resolve all your credit problems overnight. For her and many others, you need to allow Lexington Law to work on your case over many months to see results.

Not only that, Addrienne brings up another very important point about credit repair: for the best results, you should take measures to improve your credit in addition to hiring a repair agency. Signing up with Lexington Law is a great first step, but following that up with good credit practices will help you maintain good credit in the long run.

Some specific examples of these are getting a credit card and continuing to pay all your bills on time.

Debora of Nampa, ID

April 1, 2021

I had a lot of negative marks on my credit, they helped me get them removed, tracked down. Explained to me how to rebuild and why I needed a credit card. Why I should buy things on payments. I always paid cash or paid things off asap so I wouldn't have bills. It show that yes my debt ratio was great but I never did anything except had no medical insurance at one point in my younger days. Ouch don't do that. Life is hectic and things happen. Automatic withdraw works wonders for those of us who can be a bit forgetful. Not intentional, But once again without being harsh they taught me how to space out those payments so they are manageable and PAID with NO LATE FEE and NO NEG marks on credit reports....

Quote Right Marks | Credit Help Info

Finally, let’s take a look at this 5-star review by Debora. The previous review mentioned the importance of taking steps to maintain good credit, and this review highlights Lexington Law’s additional services that help you with exactly that.

We love that Lexington Law explains to clients how to maintain good credit after repair. In Debora’s case, they explained the benefits of using a credit card and how to manage those payments so they don’t spiral out of control.

These additional services help distinguish good credit repair agencies from great ones.

Trends Learned From Lexington Law Testimonials

These four reviews cover both the good and the bad experienced by many Lexington Law clients. To summarize these:

  • It’s normal to be skeptical about paying for credit repair. If it makes sense in your case to hire Lexington Law, it can be worth taking that “leap of faith.”
  • Lexington Law is not a quick fix. If you’re trying to hire Lexington Law for just a few months, you may not see the best possible results. Many successful clients have stayed with Lexington Law for at least around six months.
  • Lexington Law is a good first step for repair, but you are responsible for your credit in the long run. While Lexington Law repairs your credit, you should immediately start good credit practices such as paying all your bills monthly.
  • Lexington Law’s additional services are top-tier. By advising clients about how to continue improving their score, Lexington Law is invested in the long-term well-being of their clients.

When Should You Use Lexington Law?

Lexington Law is perfect for those who:

  • Need to have many incorrect items removed from your credit reports
  • Prefer to hire a certified professional to handle their case
  • Want a firm that can continue to help them improve their credit after the repair process

Lexington Law will not be as helpful for those who:

  • Only need to have a few items removed from credit reports
  • Have actual debts that need to be paid off

In these cases, trying to fix your credit by yourself may be a better option. Otherwise, for those with more credit problems, Lexington Law is a great investment.

How Long Does Lexington Law Take To Repair Your Credit?

The time it takes for Lexington Law to repair your credit can vary, but the typical timeframe is around 6 months of service.

Certain items, such as an account you don’t recall opening, can take much longer to dispute than a smaller item, like a late payment.

You may choose to have Lexington Law dispute the larger items in your credit report for you. If you see results in just 1-2 months, that’s great. You can then decide whether you want to handle the remaining items yourself, or continue with Lexington Law.

What Results Should You Expect From Lexington Law?

Results from Lexington Law will vary, but some clients have reported credit score increases of around 30 to 60 points after 6 months of service.

Remember, this isn’t a promise or a guarantee from Lexington Law, but simply an observation of existing customer testimonials. Lexington Law does not promise any score increase, but they will do their best to dispute all incorrect items on your behalf.

In addition, while Lexington Law is busy disputing items for you, take action by learning about how to improve your credit score with Lexington Law’s educational content. Clients that do this and better understand their credit tend to see better results, and are poised to maintain good credit moving forward.

Conclusion and Next Steps

Lexington Law is one of the best credit repair agencies for many reasons. Their proven track record, personalized customer service, and credit improvement tips put them above most competitors. While there are a small percentage of cons and negative reviews, the benefits of choosing Lexington Law are sure to outweigh the costs in the long-run.

To get started with Lexington Law, book a free credit repair consultation with one of their associates. They will walk you through Lexington Law’s steps toward credit repair and introduce you to the three service tiers.

If you decide that Lexington Law is for you, then continue with one of their subscriptions. It will take some time, but getting on the path towards better credit is definitely worth it!
